One of the biggest rewards for an LES customer/owner is low rates. LES is one of the most efficient electric utilities in the country, so you enjoy some of the lowest electric rates around. Compared to most U.S. residents, you save hundreds — sometimes thousands — of dollars a year on electricity.
Learn how LES electric rates are determined.
Interested in harnessing the sun or wind to power your home or business? Whether you want to supplement the electricity we provide to you or adopt a greener lifestyle, LES can help you along the path to generating your own renewable energy.
Net metering is a billing arrangement where residential and business customers who produce their own energy from renewable sources can get a credit on their electric bills for extra energy that flows back into our distribution system. We measure the electricity you generate from solar panels, a wind turbine or other renewable generators by a special meter that measures both the electricity you use and the electricity you produce.
The energy you generate is used to offset an equal amount of power supplied by LES in the billing period. Energy produced in excess of your need (or net kilowatt-hours) is credited to your bill at a renewable rate based on our residential retail energy rate. We will net meter generators up to 25 kilowatts.
In addition to payments from LES, low Nebraska Energy Office loan rates and annual renewable energy tax credits of up to 30 percent of the installation cost through 2016, can help support renewable energy project costs for LES customers.
When you choose customer-owned generation for your home, you’re supporting clean energy from renewable sources like wind and sun.
