The Lincoln Electric System Administrative Board held its regular monthly meeting April 20 at the Lincoln Electric Building. Items from the meeting, as well as other pertinent information, include:

LES to Pay $9.1 Million to Local Governments

Lincoln Electric System (LES) will pay about $9.1 million to the Lincoln School District, City of Lincoln, Lancaster County and Waverly as an annual revenue tax payment.

The payment represents 5 percent of the retail electric revenue in 2006 from within incorporated areas. The Lincoln School District and local governments receive the revenue tax from LES based on their proportionate share of the local tax levy.

The revenue tax payment is higher than taxes paid by any other utility operating in the county.

LES has made the payment since its creation in 1966. During that time, recipients have received more than $159 million from LES.

The 2006 money to be paid local governments will be distributed as follows:

Lincoln School District

$6,240,251

City of Lincoln

$1,385,349

Lancaster County

$1,297,976

Waverly

$221,942

Total

$9,145,518

Over the last 41 years, the revenue tax paid to local governments totals:

Lincoln School District

$104,313,160

City of Lincoln

$30,392,125

Lancaster County

$21,911,677

Waverly

Reconstruction of Central NE Transmission Line

Reconstruction of the transmission lines in Central Nebraska, downed by the late-December ice storm is going very well, Vice President of Power Supply Doug Bantam reported. Nearly all transmission structures are in place, and the repairs are ahead of schedule.

LES storm impact costs have reached $9.2 million and are expected to total $9.5 million.

LES Benefiting from Operation of Council Bluffs No. 4

Three percent of the energy LES received in March came from our newest resource – Council Bluffs No. 4. The unit was first fired-up the last week of February, and it has been undergoing operational tests since that date.

The plant was contracted at 790 megawatts (MW). LES’ share of the project includes 12.66 percent of the final commercial rated output. Council Bluffs No. 4 will continue performance tests throughout May.
