YORK — Lincoln Electric System employees accepted three awards at the 2019 Nebraska Safety Council Conference and Trade Show in York, Nebraska, Oct. 16, 2019. The honors were a Governor’s Wellness Award, Workplace Safety Award and Workplace Health Achievement Index recognition. The event was hosted by Nebraska Safety Council and WorkWell.
LES earned a Grower level Governor’s Wellness Award, honoring groups showing significant improvement in employee health behaviors; a Peak Performance level Workplace Safety Award, Nebraska Safety Council and WorkWell’s top honor for excellence in workplace safety; and a Silver level recognition in the American Heart Association’s Workplace Health Achievement Index.
“Being recognized for these awards shows how much we value our employees’ health and well-being here at LES,” said Julie Yuhas, occupational health and wellness specialist at LES. “Having healthy employees ensures we are able to perform to the best of our abilities, allowing us to better serve our customers.”
Studies show that worksites with a culture of health with comprehensive, evidence-based policies and programs and senior leadership support are more likely to have engaged employees and a healthier, more productive workforce. Health and safety are core parts of the culture at LES. Each of these recently awarded honors is designed as a quantitative scale to help organizations measure their progress at promoting those crucial focal points.
Throughout the past eight years, LES has sustained more than a 70% employee engagement rate in its health and wellness programming, with over 93% of program participants regularly engaged with their doctors. This also marks the fourth consecutive time LES has received the Nebraska Safety Council and WorkWell’s highest honor, the Peak Performance level Workplace Safety Award.
The customer-owned utility’s focus on employee health and safety, evidenced by these recent honors, will continue to define the culture at LES as it strives to be an employer of choice in the Lincoln area. LES’ focus on safety is rivaled only by its focus on affordability, reliability and integrity. Together, these four core values contribute to creating a better electric system for our community.
