LES to host open house on Haymarket transmission project

LINCOLN — Lincoln Electric System will host an open house Thursday, Nov. 13, to discuss upcoming transmission work in the Haymarket area.

The event will run from 4 to 6 p.m.in the Hickory Room on the second floor of Lazlo's Brewery & Grill, 210 N. Seventh St. Attendees are encouraged to use the P Street entrance.

The open house will provide LES customers the opportunity to learn about construction impacts related to transmission upgrades in and around downtown Lincoln, including the Haymarket and the north side of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's city campus.

LES and its contractor, Watts Electric, plan to upgrade transmission lines from S. First and M streets to N. 17th Street and Salt Creek Road. Crews will utilize existing transmission structures to minimize disruptions, although temporary parking, sidewalk and lane closures are expected. Work is scheduled to begin in January and is expected to finish in February.

"Upgrading transmission lines in the Haymarket and downtown areas will provide the capacity for increased electricity needs of the future," said Tim Rajewski, project manager, Energy Delivery. "By being proactive with system upgrades, we can maintain reliability across our service network."
